It's only 10 degrees in Formby, but the sunglasses-wearing, shorts-clad crowd - which includes myself - has descended on Sefton's coastline.

Formby Point is one such place which attracts vast amounts of visitors from across the region and beyond, while more and more cafes and restaurants are popping up in the area.

Coming off the train at Freshfield station onto Victoria Road - Merseyside's 'millionaire row' which is home to some of football's biggest names - the first thing you will come across is Kiosk Coffee.

Kiosk was founded in the summer of 2021 by the team behind The Good Catch Fish & Chips while there is a branch next door.

The coffee shop offers exclusively outdoor seating, where dog walkers can be seen enjoying the mild weather while sipping on their favourite caffeinated beverage. A dad with a young child sings: "please Jesus, give me some strength" - who knows, maybe that "strength" will come in the form of Kiosk's coffee.

Steven Gerrard, who lived in the area while at Liverpool, is known to frequent the shop, but must have been somewhere else today - somewhere much hotter.

To order, one must enter the shop - obviously, right? But they then must take a seat outside and collect their items from a window, just to make sure the venue lives up to its name.

Food and drink is supplied in cardboard cups and boxes which creates a grab, eat, go sort of system; if you're the kind of person that sits in a coffee shop for four hours writing a screenplay, then this isn't the place to do it.

Lukewarm coffee isn't available at Kiosk - as is the case with an alarming number of cafes - and the cappuccino I had was perfectly good. A toasted focaccia sandwich filled with mozzarella, pesto and tomato would serve as an early lunch and it was fresh, healthy while the bread was of a high quality with hints of rosemary.

Being a light meal, I could have easily gone for a walk in the pinewoods without falling into a food coma, to then reward myself with a fish and chips or a pint at The Freshfield Pub afterwards.
